Edmonds Kitchen & Dining Remodel

Location: Edmonds, WA

Design Goals: The owners of this 1950s single-story home approached H2D with the vision of transforming their living space. Their primary goal was to enhance the openness by eliminating the wall that separated the kitchen and dining room. The removal of a substantial fireplace on that wall not only reclaimed valuable square footage, but also paved the way for a more functional layout. In addition, the project aimed to create more spaciousness by vaulting the ceiling in these areas and introducing skylights above the kitchen to maximize the natural light. The scope also included the addition of a buffet adjacent to the dining table and a mud bench for enhanced storage near the entryway. The design was further enriched with new finishes, including hardwood flooring, cabinetry, quartz countertops, and tile backsplashes. This holistic approach ensured a seamless and contemporary transformation of the main hub of the home.

Style: Transitional

Design Challenges + Site Constraints: Designing entirely within the limits of the existing footprint, the project required a deliberate and strategic approach to improve functionality without adding square footage. Each design move was carefully considered, with an emphasis on how subtle shifts in layout and proportion could enhance circulation, usability, and overall comfort. The design prioritized efficiency by reworking layouts, integrating storage, and custom built-ins to eliminate underutilized space. Existing conditions presented constraints that demanded inventive solutions, prompting a close coordination between spatial planning and detailed cabinetry design.
