ADU Hideaway

Location: Seattle, Washington

Design Goals: Transform an existing basement into a thoughtfully designed attached accessory dwelling unit (AADU). The primary goal was to create a flexible and livable space that could adapt over time, with accessibility and comfort at the forefront. The new ADU includes a private bedroom, a cozy living area, and a standard kitchenette for day-to-day use. The bathroom was carefully designed with aging-in-place features, ensuring it remains safe and accessible for a wide range of needs. Shared laundry and storage areas were seamlessly integrated into the layout to support both the main household and the new unit.

Style: Transitional

Design Challenges + Site Constraints: Careful consideration of space planning was important due to the limited square footage available, as this new AADU was to be laid out to fit within the existing space in the basement. The design had to be laid out to work around existing structure, an existing garage, and stair location.
