Manzanita Beach Retreat
Location: Manzanita, Oregon
Design Goals: The remodel and addition for this coastal retreat in Manzanita, OR, is designed to support the homeowners' long-term goal of retiring in place while enhancing the comfort and usability of the home for daily living and entertaining. The project thoughtfully updates both the layout and finishes to reflect a more open, functional, and modern living environment that takes advantage of the home’s coastal setting. A new addition expands the dining area, creating a more generous and connected space for family gatherings and hosting guests. The kitchen is fully reconfigured with new cabinetry, fixtures, and finishes, improving circulation and functionality while opening the main living spaces to each other. At the rear of the home, a spacious new deck offers an inviting area for outdoor dining and relaxation, with views to the surrounding coastal landscape. Upstairs, the design includes a refreshed bathroom, reimagined bedrooms, and expanded closets to increase storage and comfort. Altogether, the updates create a welcoming, adaptable home ready for years of future use.
Style: Transitional Craftsman
Design Challenges + Site Constraints: The design constraints for this project centered on making the most of the existing structure while achieving the client’s design goals. The intent was to preserve as much of the original home as possible, requiring a thoughtful and efficient approach to reconfiguring the layout. Every area of the home was carefully evaluated to enhance functionality, flow, and spatial efficiency. Creative solutions were used to update and modernize the home within the limitations of the existing footprint.
